7. October, 2009 - Bankside

We walked along Victoria Embankment, towards Parliament and Big Ben.

We passed the London Eye and other sights along the 30-minute walk, in the stormy weather.

We were hoping to watch Prime Minister question time, but found out upon arrival that Parliament was still in recess.

Since I hadn't been in that area before, it was great to be able to walk around and take in some of the more 'touristy' sights: Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, etc.

We walked back a different way, in an attempt to check out 10 Downing Street, but found out that we were not allowed to access it that day either.

So we backtracked, heading towards Millennium Bridge. We passed this building along the way, and it seemed as if it should have been a library or museum, but we couldn't figure out what its function was. I liked the statues along the roofline, though.

This was a striking memorial, to The Women of World War I.

Crossing over the Thames via Millennium Bridge, we took advantage of the low tide to climb down over the embankment into the depths of the river. This is Bankside.

After hiding out, avoiding the weather in a cafe, we went to see Love's Labours Lost at the Globe Theatre.

We got standing tickets, in true Elizabethan manner, and stood for over three hours in the rain, enjoying the production, which was really wonderful.

More (surreptitiously taken) photos to come.

  1. I was guessing it was going to say "Banksy", but it's a bit permanent even for him. Love the Globe experience. I'd forgotten the SRO option for the masses.
